The master’s and doctoral programs are offered by the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering department, which is recognized for its excellence in teaching and research in metals, minerals, polymers, composites, ceramics and biomaterials, and modern laboratories. Students participate in projects developed for companies, facilitating their insertion in the job market.



The department has a strong interchange with national and international institutions and participates in undergraduate education, being distinguished by the integration with the Polytechnic School of UFRJ. Its lines of research focus on the following areas: Biomaterials; Advanced Ceramics; Corrosion; Extractive Metallurgy: Mineral and Environmental Technology; Physical Metallurgy and Mechanical Properties; Thermomechanical Processing and Microstructural Engineering; Welding and Non-destructive Testing; and Fine Surfaces and Films.
